Do I have 'superweeds' in my garden??!
|
|
I decided to kill off some weeds (the dreaded bindweed and ground elder) last weekend around my garden using Roundup GC. I dutifully followed all the instructions on the bottle and then sat back and waited.....and waited....and waited.....and now, a week on nothing has happened and they still look perfectly healthy and happy. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong so if anyone could shed some light on this one that would be great........

Hello IlexAlba,
Don't worry you are not doing anything wrong. Roundup GC will work on the weeds you have treated, provided you used the correct dilution rate and method of application. Un-like some traditional weedkillers which just 'burn' off the leaves of the weeds, Roundup will enter the sap system of the weeds and be circulated down to the root. This process can take around 3 weeks.
The more active the weeds growth is, the faster the product will work. As the ground temperatures are still quite low, weeds are not growing very quickly therefore it may take longer to see results with these (systemic) types of weedkillers.
Bindweed is best controlled if you cut it back to ground level, wait for it to re-shoot and spray the fresh new young growth at ground level, this will also prevent accidental spray onto wanted plants which the bindweed is growing through.
I hope this is useful to you,
all the best

Thank you Vicky. Very helpful. I am relieved to hear that it is just a case of having more patience rather than me doing anything wrong!
