Judging by recent circumstances, we should be getting some great gardening weather coming our way. Let’s hope so, as I’m beginning to develop trench foot!
In April, 7 water authorities introduced a hosepipe ban – and it hasn’t stopped raining since. Now the biggest 3 of those companies – Anglian, Southern and Thames – have lifted their bans, so surely that means it will be glorious sunshine for the rest of the summer!
Whatever the weather, it still makes sense to make the most of every drop of water in the garden – especially if you’re on a water meter. Also,
We’ve just had 5 great days at BBC Gardeners’ World Live where, among other things, we were giving advice on being water smart in the garden and most people we spoke to agreed that it was a sensible thing to do. The only ones who disagreed were those who’d been flooded out!

Due to age and poor health I have had my front lawn stripped off leaving a wide border all the way around with 4 trees and several bushes plus a whole wall covered with Ivy, but the Council still threatens to take me to court and fine me £20,000.00 if I don’t have a patch of grace covering 60% of the area. That would be a lot more than I had before.
I just couldn’t afford the work that has to be done and the upkeep.
Is this right? Where can I complain and find help?
I am 80years of age, by the way, a widow and live on my own.
