Technical Sales and Marketing Manager, Professional UK & Ireland (Turf & Amenity)

Purpose of the job

Responsible for the ongoing technical development and technical product marketing of the UK/Ireland Turf and Amenity product range and to support the continual growth of our Turf and Amenity business. Provide specific key agronomic field support to the T&A sales team.

Key responsibilities, tasks and activities

  • Responsible for the Technical Product Marketing of the UK/Ireland Turf and Amenity portfolio.
  • Develop product literature and end-user technical promotions and work in conjunction with Marketing Department to support execution.
  • Responsible for monitoring technical competitor activities in the UK/Ireland.
  • Promote technical education for Distributors/End-users.
  • Develop new technical ideas for new product development programs.
  • Attend periodic International T&A technical meetings.
  • Work with the International Technical Manager on International T&A trial plans and ensure that these meet UK/Ireland market’s local needs.
  • Represent and promote the T&A business with key technical bodies and the Scotts customer base.
  • Responsible for undertaking technical seminars, presentations and training demonstrations.
  • Provide technical product articles for publications, web sites etc.
  • Support and represent Scotts T&A business on technical matters at national and local trade shows.
  • Provide agronomic support to T&A Area Sales Managers (ASM’s).
  • Provide technical advice and back-up service including complaint investigation and field trial work for the Professional T&A product range.
  • Work with key Distributor representatives and Scotts ASM’s to build network of key contacts and customers in these sectors.

Education, experience, skills and knowledge

To be successful...

  • At least 5 years post-graduate experience in a relevant industrial environment.
  • Bsc level in Turf and Amenity/Agricultural business/marketing.
  • BASIS qualification.
  • Experience with Sales and/or Marketing product systems in the turf and amenity range.
  • Scientific report writing, research experience, computing skills.
  • Contacts in the field of Biological Sciences, Horticulture and related industries.
  • Sound knowledge of experimental design and statistics.
  • Experience of working to ISO 9001.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Good team player.

Maintenance Planner

Purpose of the job

We are seeking a Maintenance Planner to join our team at Howden. This role will be responsible for implementing cost effective, planned and preventative maintenance programs for all process and plant equipment, cost effectively, to improve plant reliability and availability. This role is also responsible for monitoring and controlling engineering contractors and controlling technical documentation for all plant and engineering equipment.

Key responsibilities, tasks and activities

  • Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner and FULLY comply with all EH&S legislation and Company procedure.
  • Create detailed technical asset lists, defining method statements and generating maintenance schedules for all equipment.
  • Analyse downtime data and create improvement plans for worst performing assets and repeat failures, either through improved maintenance regimes or equipment modification.
  • Organise/manage planning of maintenance tasks with respect to asset availability and production running plan - ensuring maintenance intervals are adhered to and communicated.
  • Review/procure spare parts holdings and requirements for planned maintenance tasks.
  • Liaise with the Engineering Coordinator to organise labour requirements for maintenance days, shutdowns and all other engineering tasks.
  • Deliver reports/presentations to management team on progress, achievements and data.
  • Collation of Site Engineering documentation, compliance certification, manuals, reports and layouts.
  • Determine equipment plant criticality and analyse records, by factory area, ensuring that appropriate maintenance programmes and spares are available.
  • Manage key asset maintenance contracts - steam boiler, burners, compressors etc.
  • Continually review and improve current maintenance activities on plant and equipment - create a defect free maintenance work ethic.
  • Generate and monitor engineering KPI’s for measuring equipment reliability, performance of maintenance team, effectiveness of maintenance and ability to complete the tasks.

Education, experience, skills and knowledge

To be successful...

  • Highly Skilled in Mechanical Engineering disciplines.
  • Degree level qualification in a related engineering discipline.
  • Qualification in asset maintenance.
  • FMCG 3-5 years experience - including high speed packaging equipment (form fill and seal, sack-filling, carton machines and collation etc.) and Heavy industrial equipment.
  • Maintaining pneumatic, electrical, mechanical components and control systems.
  • Industrial engineering and processes.
  • Planned preventative maintenance systems - Management and control.
  • Practical and actual implementation of maintenance systems and strategies.
  • Ability to create spreadsheets and experience of reporting software/high level of general IT skills.
  • Control and organisation of spare parts.
  • Experience of using Lean manufacturing techniques SMED, RCA, OEE, 5 Why, CBM, CMMS.
