"Can anyone help me identify the pest that has taken all my nectarines for the last 5 years? Just as fruits are ripening, silvery threads appear, hanging from the fruits. Fruits then quickly turn brown and rotten - very frustrating! We have tried sprays and traps - pest is not discouraged at all!"

Thanks

Hi Mrs P.

the silvery threads are where the fruit has been damaged and the juice from inside is oozing out. If you cut open the fruit is there anything inside?

Thanks

Mrs P,

A possibilty is SawFly, the holes will be where the grubs have tunneled out of the fruit, usually if you look in the centre of the fruit by the stone you will see some dark mess ( sawfly larvae poo!).

turn the top layer of soil in winter to allow the bird to eat the exposed larvae, then in early spring you will need to find a suitable insecticide available in Greece to treat the tree.

Hope that helps smile
