Heatherside School Learn To Gro
17th August 2009, by Dan Walford

Heatherside Junior School have built a brand new garden using compost donated from The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company. The children have been busy planting potatoes, shallots and onions in raised vegetable beds and sowing seeds for summer bedding.

The School were so happy with the results achieved they invited Vicky (Miracle-Gro Consumer Advisor) down to have a look and meet some of the keen little gardeners.
Vicky was amazed by the amount they’d achieved, “The garden looks a picture, with beautiful hanging baskets full of summer bedding, herb planters, veg plots and a stunning marrow mound! I was very impressed by how keen the children were, even when it comes to watering. It was lovely to see how we had helped introduce the children to the world of ‘Gro Your Own’.”
Louise Shapley (teacher) said, “Our new garden has been a great success so far and last summer we won two gardening competitions in Fleet – the ‘Fleet and Church Crookham in Bloom Schools Plant a Pot Competition’ and the Fleet schools ‘Tallest Sunflower’ competition. We used Scotts compost for both competitions!”
