Survey Reveals New Generation Of Non-Gardening Gardeners
5th August 2009, by Dan Walford

A nation of gardeners we have always been but a new generation with the green finger bug are nothing like their traditional forbearers according to new research.
A recent study revealed that 2 in 3 Brits now start gardening before they even turn 20, that’s over double the amount of their previous generation! Most are self-taught and would not recognise the latin names of the plants they are growing, but this doesn’t stop them experimenting in their gardens and having a go. Andrew McIndoe, Managing Director at Hilliers Garden Centre says “We’ve noticed a definite increase in the number of young people hitting our garden centres this summer, and aesthetics appear to be the number one driver.”
Here is a new generation of gardeners who, though they wouldn’t admit it down the pub, are actually spending a lot of time in the garden to create the look they want for their outside area.
