Earwigs in the Home

Adult Earwig
Description
Earwigs are hard, flattened, reddish brown insects up to 1 inch long. They are harmless to humans and animals, although if handled carelessly, the earwig can give a slight pinch with the forceps. Earwigs are nocturnal and during the day they hide in damp, dark places either indoors or outdoors.
Large numbers of earwigs may invade homes through cracks, doors or windows. Although they do not damage household furnishings their presence is annoying and they may feed on stored food items.
Treatment and control
General tips
For control of earwigs indoors firstly discourage earwigs by storing food in sealed containers, repair cracks and openings around doors and windows.
Dusting the site
Spray with Ant Stop Gun! (contains deltamethrin) into cracks and crevices where the earwigs are entering. You can also spray Ant Stop Gun! along skirting boards, around the base of cookers, sinks and cupboards.
