Helps all gardeners grow beautiful ericaceous plants in patio pots, acid beds and beds and borders
This special ericaceous compost has a pH balance that is ideal for growing acid-loving plants such as azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons in patio pots or other containers. The compost is enriched with sufficient Miracle-Gro Ericaceous Plant Food to feed plants for up to 3 months for strong growth. It is fortified with iron to ensure your plants grow healthy green leaves. Keep the compost moist at all times. In areas where tap water is ‘hard’ and forms lime-scale in your kettle, try to water with rainwater whenever possible.
Where soil is near neutral and is suitable for growing acid-loving shrubs and trees in beds and borders use this Miracle-Gro ericaceous compost 50:50 when planting acers, magnolias and other ericaceous shrubs.
If your soil is very alkaline but you still want to grow ericaceous shrubs and trees you can create an acid bed that is isolated from your existing soil. Dig a hole and line with well pierced polythene sheeting. Fill this bed withMiracle-Gro Azalea, Camellia & Rhododendron Ericaceous Compost and plant as normal.
Ericaceous plants are often referred to as lime-hating or acid-loving plants. The most commonly grown ericaceous plants are Azalea, Camellia and Rhododendrons. These plants thrive in a low lime environment (pH 5 to 5.5). If they are grown in soil where the pH is too high, they produce poor growth and the leaves tend to become yellowish in colour.
