How to restore your tired autumn lawn and protect it over the winter
No matter how diligent you’ve been with your lawn over the summer months, come autumn it’s likely to be looking a little tired, pale and worn out. This is because it has used up most of the nutrients in the soil, as well as suffering wear and tear from children making the most of the summer weather by playing in the garden.
Ingredients
- EverGreen Autumn (available to use in a spreader, refill carton or bag)
- Scotts EvenGreen Drop Spreader (if buying refill carton or bag)
- EverGreen Lawn Repair Kit
Other useful items
Rake, fork, gardening gloves
1. September – November: As winter approaches, you’ll need to feed the lawn so that it’s strong enough to survive the harsh weather and spring back to life next year. Start by raking up any fallen leaves, as if left alone they can cause brown patches on your lawn.
2. Spike the grass with a garden fork to increase drainage and get some air to the roots.
3. Now you’re ready to use EverGreen Autumn which will help strengthen roots and kill moss, and will give you a beautifully green and lush lawn come spring. Application couldn’t be simpler – just flip open the spreader and then scatter the granules evenly as you walk up and down your lawn.
4. If you have bare patches caused by a hot and dry summer or excessive wear, now is the time to treat them. Use EverGreen Lawn Repair Kit, which contains grass seed and lawn food to restore the grass. For best results, follow the instructions on-pack.
5. To make sure nobody walks over the area until it has established, it is worth marking out the treated area using string.
