My lawn grass has become very sparse and the blackbirds are constantly pecking at the soil

I have had problems with my lawn since laying the turf 3 years ago on top of new top soil. The turf was originally thick and healthy but then became very sparse. Each year I have aerated, top dressed, reseeded, used weed and feed fertiliser twice a year but still the grass becomes sparse. This year in September I sprayed the lawn with nematomes for potential leather jacket infestation. This had a very good effect and within 5 weeks the grass was thick and lush. Following 6 weeks of heavy rain commencing early November this year again the grass has become very unhealthy and extremely sparse and blackbirds are constantly pecking at the soil – there is more soil space now than grass – see attached photograph.

Can you provide me some advice please.
