Miracle-Gro is supporting the growing ventures of the children and staff at the Play Pit Day Nursery in Felixstowe. We have supplied them with compost, planters and feeds.

The children have used the compost to sow seeds and grow a wide range of vegetables and other crops from around the world. As well as growing the more usual strawberries, sweet peas, carrots and mint, the children have also been experimenting with barley, black beans and pumpkins.

Katie Rennie, the childcare assistant at the Play Pit, uses these growing sessions to teach the children about how plants grow, the natural world, taking care of our environment and even recycling.

Seen here with Kyle, Millie, Ethan and Olivia, Katie talks to the children about what plants need to grow and how they must be cared for in their nursery garden. There is a great deal of watering involved, especially during dry weather - although their watering can might be just a little too large! Katie and the children are often out in the garden quite early in the morning. As Katie says: “There's nothing better than being hands-on and learning by actual ‘doing’ outdoors.”
