It’s time for judging

John Clowes's picture
By John Clowes, Gardening Guru
Alice looks really beautiful - all thanks to pupils from Chaucer School, Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
Juliette’s dress has been specially handmade from the selected design by Jasmin Dennis-Kaye from Digby Primary, Lincoln.

It’s only 3 weeks to Chelsea Flower Show and the Miracle-Gro’wers Chelsea Challenge steps up another gear.

We are now eagerly awaiting the receipt of pictures from all 100 schools of flowers, vegetables and herbs that will fill our three decorative gardens. The final deadline for receipt of your submissions is Wednesday 30 April, but as always, we would appreciate receipt of your school’s entry sooner if possible.

The judging panel will sit down next week and let each school know w/c 5th May if any of your plants have been selected. Pickup of selected material will take place between 7th and 15th May.

Juliette’s Balcony
Juliet’s Balcony created by Richard Lander School, Truro, Cornwall - complete and ready for testing next week.
Alice Characters
Some of the Wonderland characters created by pupils of Holtspur Primary School, Beaconsfield, Bucks.

Props have been picked up from the schools selected. We have a magnificent balcony for Juliet from Richard Lander School in Cornwall and some great characters including a great Cheshire cat from Holtspur School, Beaconsfield, Bucks, and some wonderful small animals from Boston West Academy. We have seen some great pics of a brilliant Fungi fence that will divide the flower garden from the veg patch and some attractive bunting from Digby CofE Primary near Lincoln and a wonderful Alice and wacky Mad Hatter from Chaucer Primary of Ilkeston.

Well done to all and thank you for putting in so much effort! Also great thanks to Stoodley Knowle School for Girls in Torquay for making our Romeo, and Digby for a beautiful Juliet.
