Early morning and we arrive at the stand to find that the RHS judges have awarded us a glorious Silver Gilt award for the Miracle-Gro’wers Discovery and Learning Journey garden.

Monday dawns and we have created some of the most beautiful gardens thanks to all the plants, props and sundries supplied by all the schools that took up the Miracle-Gro Chelsea Challenge. Thanks for all your input - I’m sure you will be as delighted with the end results as Jane and I are.

Heavy rain on Tuesday turned the walkways and roads in the Royal Hospital grounds here at Chelsea Flower Show into lakes. The construction sites of the outdoor gardens were instantly unworkable and trenches soon filled with water.

Miracle-Gro transport has been whizzing around the country all last week collecting plants and props from more than 40 schools from Cornwall to Yorkshire.

What a great time Jane and I have had in the last couple of weeks visiting some of the schools who are participating in the Miracle-Gro’wers Chelsea Challenge.

The Miracle-Gro’wers Learning Journey is part of the Miracle-Gro schools growing initiative.

Each year we work alongside Pre-Schools, Primary Schools, Junior Schools, Special Schools, Senior Schools and Academies to help children to get their hands dirty and enjoy growing, while at the same time, learn the benefits of fruit, vegetables and flowers, and the science behind gardening.

As part of the Miracle-Gro’wers Learning Journey, schools are encouraged to learn about healthy living, healthy eating and to become good food ambassadors who can gently influence friends and family.
