A tree is defined as being a perennial plant with an elongated stem or trunk. Our native trees actually started growing naturally in the UK after the ice age and were not directly introduced by man. UK trees and woods are home to more wildlife than any other landscape. The trees are protecting around 200 of our rarest and most threatened species.
We have many varieties of tree in the UK- the Ash, Yew and Sycamore tree to name but a few. It is actually possible to identify trees by examining their leaves. Leaf margins, veins, axil and stalk are the areas of the leaf where you will find varying characteristics.
