Dan is our trusted in-house gardening expert, with over 30 years of horticultural knowledge and hands-on experience inspiring gardeners worldwide.
He began his career in commercial horticulture, developing skills in plant production and growing techniques before further studies in plant science and molecular biology. This blend of practical expertise and scientific understanding shapes his balanced approach to gardening.
Dan’s career spans amenity horticulture, fruit growing, crop protection and glasshouse plant production. His extensive travels to rainforests and gardens across Europe, Africa, Australia and Asia deepened his global perspective and led to his role at the Eden Project in Cornwall, where he worked as a Tropical Horticulturalist caring for rare and exotic species.
Alongside this, Dan has contributed to leading publications including House & Garden, Garden Answers and Amateur Gardening magazine, and advised Dr Hessayon for the much-loved Garden Expert series.
As the author of our successful gardening guides – covering topics including lawn care, houseplants, grow your own and wildlife gardening – Dan has reached a global audience, with his work translated into four languages and downloaded over 100,000 times. He has also produced gardening videos, both in front of and behind the camera, sharing accessible advice that inspires beginners and experienced gardeners alike.
