How to use

Cacti and succulents

Potting
  1. Fill ⅓ of the pot with drainage material such as grit or washed gravel.
  2. Cover with a layer of Miracle-Gro® Peat Free Premium Cactus & Bonsai Compost.
  3. Insert the plant into the new container, infilling around the root ball with more compost.
  4. Fill the pot to 10mm (½ inch) below the rim. Ensure the plant is at the same level of compost as it was in the previous container.
  5. Top dress with gravel grit. Allow to settle for 2-3 days, then water with tepid rainwater.
Re-potting
  1. Select a container one size larger than the previous one, then follow potting instructions above.
  2. Discard any surface dressing from the plant before inserting into new container.

Bonsai

Potting
  1. Select a bonsai specific pot with good drainage holes. The existing pot may be re-used after cleaning.
  2. Position anchor wires through the drainage holes, cover the drainage holes with mesh and a layer of grit. Water plant thoroughly and remove from the existing pot.
  3. Add a layer of Miracle-Gro® Peat Free Premium Cactus & Bonsai Compost, plant the tree and add compost to the correct height.
  4. Firm lightly and water thoroughly. Keep in a shaded spot for a few weeks to allow roots to form.
Re-potting
  1. Bonsai should be re-potted in late winter (just before bud burst) every year for the first few years.
  2. Water the plant thoroughly and remove from the existing container. If the container remains correct in scale to the tree shape and size, then re-use after thoroughly cleaning.
  3. Comb out the roots away from the trunk, avoiding any roots that may be displayed on the soil surface. Cut back any long roots.
  4. Follow steps 3 - 4 for potting ensuring gaps between the roots are filled.
  5. Water the tree thoroughly.
