Most asked questions about Lawn care

It does depend on the product so it is always best to check the back of pack. However we recommend you wait at least 8 weeks from the date of applying a lawn care product before re seeding your lawn. By this point the weed killer, moss killer or feed will have stopped working which enables the grass seedlings to germinate and start to emerge.

Applying any earlier will prevent grass seed germinating. For Miracle-Gro EverGreen Natural 4 in 1 wait 10 weeks before sowing seeds.

If you have over applied a lawn treatment product then this can cause yellowing of the lawn because the grass blades have been scorched. In this instance water as much as possible to dilute the solution. Avoid applying greening products until all the product is removed since this will cause further stress to the grass blades. Always read the back of pack for the correct advice.

We recommend you water the granules into your lawn straight after application or as a minimum of 48 hours if heavy rain does not occur. Watering activates the active ingredients and helps them be absorbed by the grass/weeds or moss. Always remember to wait until the granules are dry before walking on the lawn or letting animals out on the lawn.

It could be a powdery mildew, which is a fungal disease, and can occur when it has been damp recently. It looks like a white dust covering the grass in patches and usually occurs in areas of shade, damp or poor drainage.

Alternatively, patches of white on the lawn can indicate that the granules from our products have not been watered in enough. Additional watering will make them disappear since they will be absorbed into the grass.

For the natural lawn care products such as Miracle-Gro EverGreen Natural 4 in 1 and Miracle-Gro Thick’R Lawn a white mould can develop. Don’t worry this is an indication that the natural fertilisers in the granules are starting to break down. This mould will not harm you lawn but you can brush the affected patches if you think they look unsightly.

Yellow is an indication that your lawn needs some TLC. If it has been a hot summer the lawn could be suffering from drought, if there has been a lot of rain the nutrients in the soil may have washed away so the grass blades are not getting the right nutrients to thrive. If you are a dog lover you may find there are patches where your dog, especially female dogs, use the lawn. Alternatively, you may have been scalping the lawn when mowing which will cause the lawn to turn yellow.

We do recommend you take care of your lawn and the following guide will give you a few hints and tips. For example, the lawn could be suffering from compaction, which is where the lawn is regularly used such as a path to the shed.  If you leave the cuttings on your lawn this can create thatch which is a thick layer of dead matter on the surface of the lawn, preventing air and moisture entering the soil, ideal conditions for grass blades to thrive.
