FEATURES

  • An acidic mix explicitly designed for plants that require soils of pH 6 or less to thrive
  • Boosted levels of iron and magnesium to produce lush, deep green leaves and help eliminate yellowing and premature dropping of flower buds
  • Wetting agent assists moisture to soak into the potting mix and helps roots absorb nutrients
  • Water crystals absorb and hold their own weight of water, releasing it back in the potting mix when plants need it - perfect for hot, dry summers when rain is scarce
  • Certified to meet the Australian Standard for Premium potting mixes

SUITABLE FOR

  • All trees and shrubs that need acidic soil or potting mix in which to thrive and flower well - these plants resent clay soils and will suffer significantly if lime is applied around their roots
  • Other acid lovers, such as blueberries, conifers, hydrangeas, foxgloves, primroses and lupins
  • Safe to use for new plants - the controlled release of nutrients means it will not burn soft leaves or tender young roots

NOT SUITABLE FOR

  • Plants that grow best in neutral to alkaline soils and potting mixes, including crabapples, mock orange and viburnums
  • Don't use in hydroponic growing systems or ponds
  • Don't use on lawns - use only specifically named lawn topdress soils on grassed areas

HOW TO USE

In pots

  1. Use Rose, Gardenia, Azaleas and Camellia Mix straight from the bag - no further additives required
  2. Water the plants that are to be repotted and allow them to drain
  3. Select a clean pot with large drainage holes and partly fill it with new potting mix
  4. Carefully knock the plant from its existing pot and loosen the root ball. Trim off any dead or damaged roots
  5. Place the plant in the centre of the pot and fill with potting mix
  6. Gently tap the new pot down to help the new potting mix settle in and around the roots. Do not pack the potting mix down
  7. Thoroughly water the plant and allow it to drain freely. If necessary, top the potting mix up again to the suggested level of 2-3cm below the rim
  8. Place the pot in a sheltered spot for 5 days to allow the plant to settle and acclimatise before moving it to a permanent home

In-ground planting

  1. Dig a dish-shaped hole roughly 1½ times the size of the plant's root ball and twice as wide
  2. Turn the plant out of the existing pot and gently loosen the root ball, or, if the plant is wrapped in hessian, remove it from the wrapping and then loosen the root ball - trim off any dead or damaged roots
  3. Make a small mound of the potting mix in the base of the hole and then position the plant in the centre - make sure the roots are spread evenly over it.
  4. Once positioned, backfill the planting hole with the potting mix and ensure that the plant is no deeper than it was previously (check the soil mark on the stalk/trunk)

WHEN TO USE

  • Evergreen trees, shrubs and conifers are best repotted or planted out in Spring or Autumn when there is little danger of frosts occurring
  • Deciduous / bare-root roses and trees should be planted in Winter, while they are devoid of leaves and dormant

ONGOING PLANT CARE

  • Scotts Osmocote® Rose, Gardenia, Azalea & Camellia Mix contains a balanced fertiliser up to 6 months - additional fertiliser may be required in time, depending on plant needs
  • Avoid allowing plants to dry out - plants should be watered immediately after potting and frequently enough to keep the potting mix moist (not wet)
  • Plants should be re-potted with new potting mix when they have outgrown the pot or after 12-18 months
