Regular mowing
One of the best ways to keep your lawn looking good is to regularly mow the lawn and the best time to start is in the spring when the grass starts to grow.
Little and often is best rather than scalping the lawn every few weeks – and make sure that when you first start mowing, that your mower blades are raised high.
Treatment
Springtime is as great time to start feeding your lawn but if yours is full of weeds and moss as well as being thin, then what you can use to get the best out of your lawn is a 4 in 1 treatment, one that not only feeds the lawn but will get rid of weeds and moss at the same time.
A good 4 in 1 lawn care treatment will control most broad-leaved weeds and moss. It will also help build a thick, green lawn with strong roots which better absorb water and nutrients. This means the lawn is better prepared to handle the heat, drought and other stresses, and of course, you get a lush, green lawn!
What you will need
- Miracle-Gro® Complete 4 in 1 (available to use in a spreader, refill carton or bag)
- A good spreader such as Miracle-Gro® Drop Spreader, (if buying refill carton or bag)
Other useful items
- Rake
- Gardening gloves
- Watering can or hose
- A lawnmower
Step 1
April: Firstly estimate the size of your lawn so you know how much lawn food to buy. Do this by multiplying the length by the width. One large stride is approximately one metre - so get pacing!
- Up to 100 sq.m = ¼ of a tennis court
- Up to 200 sq.m = ½ of a tennis court
- Up to 400 sq.m = A whole tennis court
Step 2
Now it’s time to apply some Miracle-Gro® Complete 4 in 1. This 4 in 1 product not only contains lawn feed, weed killer and moss killer but it also helps make the plants stronger so they are better able to survive drought conditions. The application couldn’t be simpler: just flip open the spreader and then scatter the contents evenly as you walk up and down your lawn or for a larger lawn use a wheeled spreader for even application.
Step 3
If no rain falls within two days, water the lawn thoroughly - do this at a cool time of day so that it can soak into the soil. After just seven days, your lawn will become a richer, greener colour. After two weeks you simply rake out the dead moss, leaving the grass to fully re-establish itself.
Step 4
To keep your lush lawn weed and moss-free all season, apply Miracle-Gro® Complete 4 in 1 again during the summer (maximum of 2 applications per year, leaving 3 months between application).
